ABOUT
THE DEVILS
The
Devils, like Arcadia, were a one-shot
side project of Duran Duran –
but with a twist. Nick Rhodes (keyboardist in Duran Duran)
and Stephen Duffy (a solo artist and leader of the band The
Lilac Time), who was a lead singer in Duran Duran before Simon
LeBon came on board, more or less recreated the sound –
and even some of the actual songs – of Duran Duran before
the band's big break.
WHY
WE LOVE THE DEVILS
The
one album this project spawned – 2002's Dark Circles
– is possibly the best synthpop album of the new millennium.
While it has an intentional retro feel to it – the point,
after all, was largely to revisit the late '70s/early '80s
– it doesn't sound dated or cheesy. It's just a great
record. And the female backing vocals are a blast.
